Planning a trip to Maui and hoping to book a photography session while you’re here? One of the most common questions I get is:
“How far in advance should I book my Maui photography session?”
My answer is simple: the sooner you know your vacation dates, the better!
Maui photography sessions can book up quickly, especially during the island’s busiest travel seasons. I often book months in advance, particularly during the summer and other peak travel periods. If you already know when you’ll be visiting Maui, I recommend reaching out as early as possible to secure your preferred date and time.
When Is the Busiest Time to Book a Maui Photographer?
While Maui is a popular destination year-round, some times of the year are noticeably busier than others.
Summer is one of my busiest seasons for photography sessions. Families are visiting Maui for summer vacations, couples are traveling together, and many visitors want professional photos to remember their trip. Summer sessions can book months in advance, so I highly recommend reaching out as soon as you know your travel dates.
The holiday season is also a very busy time of year, and my calendar can fill up months in advance during this time as well.
During these peak travel seasons, waiting until you’re already on Maui may mean limited availability—or not being able to book a session at all. If you know your Maui vacation dates, don’t wait to book your photographer!

How Early Should You Book Your Maui Photography Session?
There isn’t one exact timeline that works for everyone, but my general recommendation is:
The earlier, the better.
If your Maui vacation is already booked, that’s a great time to start looking for a photographer.
Booking early gives you the best chance of getting:
Your preferred date
Your preferred session time
The location you have in mind
A photographer whose style you love
If you have a specific date or time that you absolutely need, I recommend reaching out well before your trip—especially if you’re traveling during summer or another busy season.
What If I'm Visiting Maui During a Slower Season?
You may have a little more flexibility if you’re traveling during a quieter time of year.
However, Maui photography sessions can still book up, so I wouldn't recommend waiting until the last minute.
Even during slower seasons, availability can change quickly. Booking before your trip means you can check one more thing off your vacation planning list and know your photography session is taken care of.
Can I Book a Last-Minute Photography Session?
Sometimes plans change, and sometimes you don't decide you want professional photos until you're already on Maui.
If you're looking for a last-minute Maui photography session, you’re always welcome to check my availability.
If I have an opening, I'll do my best to accommodate you. However, last minute availability is not guaranteed—particularly during busy seasons.
That's why I always recommend booking ahead whenever possible.
What Time Should I Book My Maui Photography Session?
The time of your photography session can make a big difference in the look and feel of your photos.
I typically recommend golden hour sessions for the softer, warmer, and more flattering light. Golden hour is also one of the most popular times to book, especially during the busy summer and holiday seasons, so these time slots can fill up quickly.
I do not offer sunrise sessions, so if you're hoping for those beautiful soft-light Maui photos, evening golden hour is the time to book.
