What Should You Wear for Your Beach Photo Session?

Simple tips that make a big difference for your Maui photo sessions.

Soft tones and light fabrics always win.

Coordinated colors, flowy fabrics, and barefoot.

What we love seeing you wear.

Keep It Classic: Choose timeless, polished attire that complements Maui’s natural beauty. For men, a polo-style collared shirt or a simple aloha shirt adds a touch of sophistication. Solid colors and soft pastels blend beautifully with the island’s scenic backdrop.

We highly recommend not wearing white.

The sun here is incredibly strong, and white reflects that light right back, which creates harsh highlights, blown-out areas, and unflattering contrast in photos. It can also be visually distracting and intimidating to work with in bright outdoor settings, making it harder to keep the focus on you and the natural beauty around you.

What we recommend you wear.

1. Light and Airy: For women, opt for light, flowy dresses that create beautiful movement and add an elegant touch to your photos, perfectly complementing Maui’s natural beauty.

2. Neutral Tones: Earthy and neutral tones blend with the natural surroundings, creating a simple and beautiful look.

3. Prepare for a Splash of Fun: Our photo sessions are full of sand and often include playful moments by the water. Wear something you’re comfortable getting a little wet in, as I love capturing those spontaneous, joyful moments.

What we recomend not to wear.

1. Avoid Loud Prints: Loud patterns or clothing with large logos can distract from the focal point of the image which is your family. Opt for simple and understated designs to maintain the focus on your loved ones.

2. Say No to T-shirts and Gym Shorts: Although t-shirts and gym shorts are comfortable, they may not provide the polished, timeless look you’re envisioning for your family photos. For a more refined and elegant appearance, consider wearing dressier clothing.

3. Skip the Accessories: Remove items like room key wristbands, hair ties, and apple watches to maintain a clean look. Choosing minimal accessories ensures the focus remains on the real moments being captured during your photo session.
